IPL
Introduction, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct unsightly and spider veins, small veins facial veins. The larger vessels are more likely to cause discomfort, although smaller blue veins have been shown to cause pain. Spider veins are very small veins.
How is the treatment performed?
IPL offers a customized treatment of virtually every small vein disorder, including deep veins and veins that did not respond to other treatment methods.Treatment can be given as frequently as every three weeks. The sensation of light can be a little uncomfortable and has been likened to a moderate pin prick or burst of heat that lasts for only a few seconds. Each treatment takes about twenty to thirty minutes and provides excellent long-term results. It is not uncommon for a local anesthesia cream to be applied half an hour to one hour prior to treatment if the patients desires.
What can you expect after the treatment?
IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation are recognised for a very high measure of patient satisfaction. With a series of treatments, IPL technology can help the veins shrink and eventually become invisible over time.
A series of treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities.
SCLEROTHERAPY:
Dilated blood vessels, also called varicose or spider veins, have a red or blue or purple colour and appear on the surface of the body, particularly the legs. These vessels may be unsightly and can produce a dull aching of the legs after prolonged standing. If their presence is distressing, they can be treated by injection of a solution that will cause them to disappear, or at least become much smaller.
Depending on its size, a single blood vessel may have to be injected more than once, but in any one treatment session a number of vessels may be injected. Larger varicose veins sometimes underlie spider veins. In such cases it is thought that it is best to treat these vessels first.
The solution injected (via a tiny needle) irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together. Some vessels will fade from view, eventually becoming barely or not at all visible.
Possible mild side effects include localised swelling and bruising or tenderness and itch. Most of the side effects are minor, and confined to the area which has been treated. A treatment session takes approximately 1 hour.
Your will be given a more detailed explanation of your particular case on assessment and consultation
Generally you will be required to wear some form of support or pressure garment for a period of time, usually a week. Failure to do this may compromise the effectiveness of the treatment, so the inconvenience of a leg bandage for a week should be factored in to the timing of your appointment. You should also be able to do regular walking after your treatment, as this promotes the emptying of the leg veins, including the ones treated.
