Acne in thirties
Acne is thought of as a problem that primarily effects teens, however, it can also be just as common in adult life. You may never have suffered from acne, and all of a sudden you may experience an outbreak that is hard to get rid of.
According to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, as many as 35% of women have reported suffering from acne breakouts in their 30’s. Dr Alexandrides attributes this rise in acne cases to the difference in hormones between men and females. He highlights the main factors that could be contributing to your acne below:
Pregnancy
Your 30’s are a common time to conceive a child and during pregnancy you can experience hormone fluctuations which affects the way your skin behaves and can cause it to produce more oil which will block your pores, leading to acne breakouts.
Stress
During your thirties there is also a societal expectation to have your life in order. By this, he means following a career path and this expectation can bring high levels of stress. You may have been climbing up the career ladder by now, which also means more responsibility and stress within the work place. An increase in stress will release the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ and cells that produce sebum have receptors for stress hormones. The sebum mixes with dead skin cells and bacteria which can lead to acne.
Hormones
Your hormones can also change around the time of your period. Whenever your body experiences a spike in hormones, an increase in oil production can occur.
Diet
Although exponential research suggests there are no links between diet and acne, foods that can elevate hormone levels may exacerbate acne flare ups. Try to avoid refined sugars and processed foods.
If you are significantly concerned about your acne, you may wish to try a course of Isolaz. Isolaz works to remove impurities from your skin and rid it of impurities and bacteria.
