What is Botox

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is a clinical treatment administered with a fine needle to weaken and relax the muscle underneath the skin. Derived from Botulinum bacteria, Botox is a toxin that can be extremely dangerous if not administered by a healthcare professional. However, medically licensed in the UK, Botox is a proven safe and effective treatment we specialise in at 111 Harley St.

Not only does Botox treat lines and wrinkles, but it can also be a solution to a number of cosmetic and medical concerns, such as:

  • Lift the eyebrows
  • Lift a downturned mouth, jowls or even prevention of jowls
  • Stop bruxism (teeth grinding)
  • Slim the jawline for squarer faces (known as Masseter Botox)
  • Prevention of laxity to the neck
  • Improve the appearance of a gummy smile
  • Can lift the tip of the nose
  • Stop sweating in people who have hyperhidrosis to the underarms, hands and feet

Where can Botox be administered?

Botox is a widely versatile treatment that can be used around the face and the body. However, the most popular treatment areas are on the face – where Botox is used to target unwanted fine lines, wrinkles and furrows. Treatable areas include:

  • Glabellar lines – the vertical forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Nasolabial lines – also known as ‘smile lines’
  • Frown lines
  • Melomental folds – the vertical lines from the corner of the mouth to the chin. Often likened to a puppet’s mouth
  • Chin dimples
  • Platysmal bands – the vertical neck bands
  • Thin lips – can be used to create a fuller lip called a ‘Lip Flip’

Why Choose 111 Harley St.?

At 111 Harley St., we choose to exclusively use Botox products, made from the leading global pharmaceutical creators Allergan.

We are fully licensed to use Botox in all its versatility to not only treat dynamic lines from the frown, forehead and crow’s feet, but also for excessive sweating, whereas most brands other do not have this advantage.

We use the patented BOTOX® products as some selected other brands can have a tend to migrate further into the muscle, which if not taken into consideration can cause unwanted side effects such as ptosis (temporary drooping of the muscles such as the eyebrows), heaviness/tightness, or full immobilisation of the muscles. BOTOX® settles into the muscle without these complex side effects.

Alongside the above, we advocate BOTOX® use in our Harley Street clinic because of the clinic trials and professional and independent studies that showcase the longevity of Botox.

Being Mindful with your Botox Treatment

Botox needs to be consistently maintained for the best results, particularly when it’s used as an anti-wrinkle treatment. Over time, your body and the facial muscles movements gradually causing the wear down of the botulinum toxin, that temporarily blocks the chemical release of the primary neurotransmitter involved in muscle movement called acetylcholine. This results in the softening of static and dynamic wrinkles for smoother, firmer and overall more youthful-looking skin. In order to maintain its effects, top-up treatments are required.

Finally, we also recommend other treatments alongside BOTOX such as hyaluronic acid injections, Dermal Fillers or Mesotherapy, to combat the loss of volume that occurs when we age. Botox can also be enhanced alongside laser treatments, PRP (plasma replacement therapy), and effective skincare products. This combined approach reduces the signs of ageing, improves the complexion and yields fresher and youthful results.

Our biggest tip when looking for a clinic to undergo Botox treatment, is ensuring you visit a reputable injector in London who understands the anatomy of the injected area and has plenty of experience.

At 111 Harley St., you can be treated by our Aesthetic Doctor, Dr Ivona, or our Aesthetic Nurse, Claudia, depending on your needs.
