Blepharoplasty is a highly-focused treatment that removes excess skin from the eyelids specifically. Whether you are concerned with the appearance of stretched, excess eye skin exacerbated with age, or looking to diminish swelling that interferes with your peripheral vision, this procedure will help improve both. It’s the ultimate, rejuvenating surgical procedure with visible results to transform the eye area.
Blepharoplasty is suited to those whose eyelids (both upper and lower,) have drooped. It is also suitable for those who experiencing blurred peripheral vision as a result of excess skin around the eye area. The eye area is extremely delicate and a thorough consultation is recommended with one of our experts to see whether you would benefit from the procedure, or whether you’d be more suited to a different approach to see improvements to the skin.
Before your procedure, we’ll undergo thorough checks (including medical history) to ensure the safety and optimal result. We’ll complete an eye examination, which often includes testing tear production and measuring areas of the eyelid. Following this, we will undergo visual field testing to see if you have any visual blind spots and then complete the examination by photographing your eyes, which helps the surgeon in theatre. The consultation is also an opportunity to discuss any concerns and expectations for the results.
While the exact mapping of the procedure depends on what area is being focused on, during the procedure you can expect to either have excess skin removed from the upper eyelid (and potentially some muscle and fat removal) before closing the insertion. However, for the lower lid, the surgeon will make minor entry points just below the lashes and in the natural creases of the under-eye area to ensure discretion, remove the excess fat and help redistribute any sagging skin.
To note: If the drooping is too close to the pupil, a decision will be made to consider all options.
As the skin around the eye heals, it is very normal to experience some of the following aftereffects in the short term. These are:
Post-surgery, for an Upper Blepharoplasty, you can expect your incisions to be hidden within the crease of your eyelids.
We also use LED Light treatments to encourage faster healing and reduce any scarring.
Some of the benefits are that Blepharoplasty targets the following concerns:
✓ Addresses the signs of ageing around the eye area
✓ Targets sagging or hooded eyelids
✓ Improves upper eyelid skin that can inhibit the peripheral vision
✓ Removes fluid that builds up on the lower eyelid for a less puffy appearance to the under-eyes
✓ Can create a natural-looking crease in the upper eyelid
