Consider the surgeon

When it comes to a choosing a Plastic Surgeon, you should ensure they’re qualified; they should be on the GMC’s Specialist Register and you should easily be able to find examples of their work online.

The letters in your doctor’s name are key indicators of their expertise, and all Plastic Surgeons would have first qualified as doctors, so look for the letters MB, BM, BChir, ChB, or BS.

However, when it comes to having any type of surgery; you’d want to feel in the safest hands possible, so one way to feel confident would be to look for a specialist in the type of surgery you wish to undergo as well as someone who is a specialist in Plastic Surgery overall. If you’re looking for a specialist in Plastic Surgery, look for doctors with the following letters in their name: such as FRCS PLAST, MD FACS, MRCS.

Another thing to note when looking for a surgeon is that not all doctors in the UK have a ‘Dr’ before their name. In the UK, many Plastic Surgeons go by “Mr, Miss, or Ms” which is given to all surgeons who have attained a Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons. The main thing to pay attention to is the letters behind their name.

Consider the type of weight loss surgery

There are many types of fat removal surgeries available and depending on where you wish to treat, we have a specialist in Facial Surgeries and Body Contouring.

For Body Contouring, we offer:

Abdominoplasty – also called a Tummy Tuck. Works to flatten and smooth the stomach, as well as reposition the muscles, that can become weakened through pregnancy or weight gain.

Liposuction – Removes unwanted fat from the stomach, thighs, the back including ‘bra rolls’ and more.

VASER Liposuction – A gentler version of Liposuction that uses vibrations to liquify the fat and can be used to create definition.

For facial fat removal, we offer the following procedures at our clinic:

Submental Liposuction (Chin Liposuction) – contours and removes fat from the jawline and chin areas.

Buccal Fat Removal – A minor procedure to reduce fat in the cheek, and give a more sculpted appearance.

We also offer a fat dissolving injection called Aqualyx, which is a non-surgical alternative to stubborn areas of fat.

How to prepare for your surgery and maintain the results

We always recommend our patients are as close as possible to their ideal weight as they can before considering a weight loss surgery, and we cannot perform any surgery on someone whose BMI is over 30.

Our newest weight loss programme, Alevere, is an option to consider for our patients that are considering a surgery like Liposuction or Abdominoplasty, and have a BMI over 30, as well as those who are looking to maintain the results of their surgery. We create a programme to help you achieve your ideal look, depending on individual needs, this may include a combination of the weight loss programme, surgical and non-surgical treatments including skin tightening options.

Although the results of Body Contouring procedure offer immediate results, these results need to be maintained through a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise, as results may not last if you gain weight afterwards.

This is why, with the help of Alevere’s medically-led nutritional plans and supervision of medical professionals, you can lose around 1 stone per month following their programme, eat meals regularly and make lasting changes to feel more confident in your body.
