The letters in your doctor’s name are key indicators of their expertise, and all Plastic Surgeons would have first qualified as doctors, so look for the letters MB, BM, BChir, ChB, or BS.

However, when it comes to having any type of surgery; you’d want to feel in the safest hands possible, so one way to feel confident would be to look for a specialist in the type of surgery you wish to undergo as well as someone who is a specialist in Plastic Surgery overall. If you’re looking for a specialist in Plastic Surgery, look for doctors with the following letters in their name: such as FRCS PLAST, MD FACS, MRCS.

Another thing to note when looking for a surgeon is that not all doctors in the UK have a ‘Dr’ before their name. In the UK, many Plastic Surgeons go by “Mr, Miss, or Ms” which is given to all surgeons who have attained a Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons.
